If you really fancy a challenge, why not start Wainwright Bagging? A Wainwright is one of the 214 fells identified by Alfred Wainwright, fell walker and the author.

Some aim to complete this challenge in a year, others in ten years. Some simply enjoy taking part whenever they're visiting. And yes, some walks are harder on the knees than others; most will leave you gaping in awe at the scenery; all will leave you with a sense of achievement and memories to last a lifetime.

Fun on the Water

You can't come to the Lake District and not take advantage of the lakes that give this corner of England its name. Enjoy a variety of watersports including kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing - an action-packed adventure the whole family.

Wild Swimming

Have you ever been wild swimming in the Lake District? If not, perhaps it's time to give it a go. 

Among the health benefits of wild swimming (and cold water immersion) are improved circulation; a boost to your brain power; a boost to your immune system; reduced anxiety and stress; increased ness; feelings of euphoria and achievement; and if you're swimming with others, a sense of community.

If your idea of fun on the water is slightly warmer and a little less wet, why not relax on a leisurely lake cruise and soak up the panoramic views - you'll see the Lake District from an entirely different perspective.

Cycling

Explore the rolling hills and quiet country lanes on two wheels. Take a leisurely family ride along the shores of Lake Windermere. Or challenge yourself to the leg burning uphills and technical descents of the North Face MTB trail in Grizedale Forest (easier routes are available). There are also several routes around Ullswater for those staying in Elm How, Cruck Barn or Eagle Cottage.

Go Ape at Grizedale Forest, Treetop Trek at Brockhole (on the shores of Lake Windermere) and the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness are just a few family-friendly attractions close to our Windermere holiday cottages.
