If you're planning a stay in one of our Ullswater cottages this summer, we're excited to share a wonderful local initiative that's helping visitors and residents get around in a greener, more convenient way - the Ullswater Hopper Bus (UB1 service).
Launched in 2023, the UB1 Hopper Bus is a not-for-profit community transport service designed to make it easier for visitors and locals alike to move around Ullswater, while helping to reduce traffic congestion and the environmental impact of increased car use.
And now the Ullswater Hopper Bus has launched a daily service, which will continue until the end of August. This makes it even easier for walkers, cyclists and visitors to leave the car behind and enjoy the landscape without the hassle of parking or traffic.
The UB1 service runs between Aira Force and Howtown via Pooley Bridge, stopping at main accommodation centres including campsites, holiday parks and hotels, as well as popular attractions along the route.
A Call for Support: Help Keep the Hopper Going
The UB1 is a community effort that relies on the support of people who love this area. While fares contribute to running costs, there is still a shortfall between what it costs to operate the service and what comes in through ticket sales.
To help close this gap and ensure the UB1 can continue and improve in the years ahead, Matson Ground is supporting a local appeal for funding. We are inviting all guests staying in our Ullswater cottages to consider adding a £2 donation to their booking in support of this vital community transport initiative.
This small contribution from each guest can make a significant collective impact, helping to ensure this valuable service continues to benefit our community and future visitors.
So whether you're heading out for a hike, hopping between villages or simply soaking up the views, let the Ullswater Hopper take you there - sustainably and stress-free.
