We're delighted to announce that Matson Ground is now home to Windermere Food Farm, a much-loved community project which grows fresh, organic vegetables for the local food bank and families in need.
After the land it previously used was sold, the future of the project was uncertain. But thanks to strong local support and shared values, we've offered a permanent growing space on Matson Ground. Volunteers are already preparing the land, planting staples like peas, carrots, onions and potatoes.
This partnership aligns perfectly with our long-standing dedication to organic farming and sustainability. For over 20 years, we've raised beef and lamb organically, and now we're excited to extend that ethos to fruit and vegetables grown for the community.
Beyond food, the project will also serve as an educational hub, where schools, youth groups such as the Scouts, and volunteers will be able to learn about growing, harvesting and cooking organic, sustainable vegetables.
Tim Keenan, the director and founder of Windermere Food Farm CIC, said: ''We are extremely delighted and thankful for the opportunity that Matson Ground has given the project, by allowing Windermere Food Farm CIC to develop a piece of land on the farm.
''This has given us a permanent home and will allow us to be an example of how to grow organic sustainable food and be used as an educational tool.''
We're proud to see our land being used to support Windermere Food Farm, and in doing so supporting local needs and reducing food miles. This partnership reflects everything we value: sustainability, community and care for the environment.
