We’re excited to share the next step in Matson Ground’s story: a planning application has been submitted to give some of our redundant farm buildings at Home Farm a new lease of life, supporting the future of farming while creating new opportunities for local businesses, employment and the wider community. At this stage, no decision has been made. The application will now go through the Lake District National Park Authority’s normal planning process, which includes consultation with local residents, statutory consultees and other stakeholders before any decision is reached. The Tour de France is one of the world’s most famous sporting events, and in 2027 it’s coming to the UK. Even better, it will pass right through the heart of the Lake District. On Saturday 3 July 2027, Stage Two sets off from Keswick before heading through some of the region’s most beautiful scenery on its way to Liverpool. It’s set to be an exciting day, with a fantastic atmosphere across the Lake District and plenty for visitors to enjoy. Hours before a single rider appears, the roads start to fill and there’s a buzz of anticipation. Whether you’re after a short morning stroll or a full day adventure, there’s something for everyone. So dig out your walking boots, wrap up warm and off you go. Brant Fell, Grandsire and School Knott These three fells are all easily accessible from our Windermere Holiday Cottages and pack in far bigger views than you might expect for the effort involved – panoramic views over Windermere, the Coniston Fells and, on a clear day, right across to the Langdales. It’s an ideal option for a winter afternoon when daylight is shorter, offering a real sense of achievement without committing to a full day on the fells. If you do fancy something a little more challenging, why not tackle the ‘Matson Ground 3 Peaks’, about 5 miles in total?
