| Patterdale and Glenridding are an excellent base for walking, and from Elm How and Cruck Barn you can join the path outside your door for walks up to Helvellyn and Fairfield. Another path passes the drive way of Eagle Cottage. On Ullswater you can hire canoes and rowing boats. Or take the steamer for a round trip to Howtown, Pooley Bridge and back. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Further afield Apart from stunning mountains, lakes, tarns and valleys there are numerous interesting tourist attractions, many reflecting different aspects of life in the Lake District. Penrith is about 20 minutes drive away, Keswick and Ambleside about 30 minutes and Windermere and Bowness about 40 minutes.
